H.O.M.E Framework

The H.O.M.E. Framework, developed by Home Technology Ventures, is a holistic evaluation model that measures housing affordability through the total cost of being housed rather than upfront price alone. It assesses innovation across four dimensions:

Home costs (land, labor, materials, regulatory and holding costs

Occupancy costs (financing, taxes, insurance, HOA, and transactions)

Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) (energy, water, systems, labor, and durability)

Equity (wealth creation through appreciation, amortization, tax, and social benefits).

Within the Housing Innovation Challenge, the HOME Framework serves as the primary lens for evaluating proposals, ensuring teams demonstrate how design, construction methods, and systems reduce long-term costs while improving performance, resilience, and access to equity over a typical 10-year holding period.
